Sequencing learning aim A

Sequencing is the other option I picked for Btec music and school.
a quick description of Synthesizing:
Synthesizing is when you use a computer on any website to create music, any type of music can be created by using this.

02/10/13:
Within the recent lessons we have learnt how to use Cubase and what it can be used for, we have been taught what reverb and equalization means

07/10/13:
Throughout the past few music lessons we have done a range of things, from developing a nursery rhyme to creating a PowerPoint on Cubase , the nursery rhyme that Sophie and I have been given was Twinkle Twinkle Satan's Little Star, the rhyme managed to get the nickname by the rash choice of instruments that we chose.
20/10/13:
In most recent lessons  we have been updating our power point on how to use Cubase, and choosing another nursery rhyme to make use on Cubase.
We will develop these songs over the next few lessons by adding different instruments and using re-verb (and others)

11/11/13:
In the past few lessons, the group doing sequencing have been assigned a date to show our PowerPoint's to the rest of the class.
We have been editing and adding to the PowerPoint's trying to get them as perfect as possible
I was given the small task of going first to show mine, this leaves me (3 weeks)4-6 lessons  of editing, not much time if you ask me but its better then nothing.
Hopefully my PowerPoint will be good enough so wish me luck!!!!
25/11/13:
For the past few lessons i have not been in to do the work,
I will be showing my PowerPoint that i have been working on this Wednesday (27/11/13)so i need to make all final checks before then.

27/11/13:
I showed  my power point to the group (glad that's over) I have been told to do task 2, which is where we have to make a sort of jingle (or tune) for a tropical holiday, i have started that by using the keyboard to practice the tune and make it sound better, after i'm done i need to remake the song on cubase.

08/12/13:
last Wednesday we watched Demi's present her power point on cubase. for the rest of the lesson(roughly half an hour) we continued with our practical work, i was doing task 2, i managed to complete a rough idea of what the tune will be with a range of notes. i decided what instrument i will be using to create the song fitting the theme.

06/01/14:
the techniques(skills) that I used over the past few weeks are:
  • adding notes with a mouse, and playing them.

  • playing notes using the midi keyboard.
  • importing the midi material(using the keyboard to place notes).
  • editing the notes:
Duration(length of the notes)
-Pitch(It is an auditory sensation in which a listener assigns musical tones to the relative places on the
musical scale based on the frequency of vibration),
-Velocity(

the speed of something in a given direction)

  • using the mouse/ keyboard to copy and paste notes.
  • selecting particular(software) instruments.
  • like software mixer.
  • digital effects- EQ(the levels of frequency response of an audio signal, or controls which allow their adjustment.) chorus ( a group of people that say the same thing at the same time.) and reverb(prolongation of a sound; resonance.)

11/01/14:
over the past few lessons we(the sequencers) have been making sure we have ticked all the criteria needed to get the highest grade we possibly can. Personally I am hoping to get a merit or distinction, but that all depends on how much work i get done to finalize the grade. We have until 30/01/14 to complete all the work ( 2 and a half weeks) so I have three or four things to complete.

14/01/14:
the advantages of using cubase are:
  • the MIDI integration system that makes it easier if you can not play an instrument causing it to be easier to create a song.
  • the multi-tracking, which means you can record different parts of the song and layer them rather than recording the whole band at any one time.
  • recording studio integration, means that you can use cubase as a home recording system.
the limitations of the software are:
  • the instrument sounds scan be slightly off
  • if you want a particular sound you have to go through lots of editing to get it the way you want and even then it could turn out different.
  • it is unreliable as some of the sounds do not come through and if the system crashes then you could lose all your work.
  • you need a dongle to be able to access the software, so it could be problematic if you lose the USB.

20/01/14:
Effectiveness of cubase(my opinion):
Cubase is effective in a varied way. It is a commonly used musical software, but it has flaws like most other software's, my experience with cubase was educational as it helped me found out other ways to develop the noise(As shown within the twinkle twinkle little star project.)even though the instrumental sounds can be slightly off it overall is effective depending on your desire. For a software ranging from 82£ to 499£ it is a good software (But note i do not think its worth that much)you can see a larger range of reviews on cubase on amazon.

21/01/14:
this week during music we have been adding the final pieces of work to our blog, updating everything pretty much, we will be finishing and handing in all the work by the 31st, i have pretty much finished all my work, just adding the smallest details.

Here is my presentation, and my first project recording

  1. You've written a great blog Naomi, but it's currently under the Home page! Please make sure you are writing under the 'Pages' Tab for Sequencing. See me to assist you with this.

Once you have done this, I will remark.

  2. Great, well done Naomi.
Literacy focus: Make sure you use a capital letter at the beginning of every sentence.
Skill focus: Go into more detail in your blogs to demonstrate your understanding and what you have completed in the lessons.

At the start of each sentance I have changed the non-capitals to capitals.
